Wedding and Portrait Photography in 2013
The art of photography..do you believe in strong, emotional, moving images? Photography is one of the most powerful means of communication in our world today. Why do you think every mobile phone has a camera built in? People like to record their lives and then share these experiences with friends, family or even a world of total strangers (but potential friends).
So we all have cameras don’t we. Does that make us all photographers? Possibly yes..because there’s really no ultimate definition of a photographer other than ‘someone who takes photographs’ perhaps. But good photographers? Photographers who are able to fulfill a brief (be it making images of a wedding, a newborn baby, a new car..well now that’s a very different thing altogether. The longer I spend as a photographer the more I realise that it the constant training..the use of cameras, lenses and computers that sharpen and hone my particular skills and refine my vision. If your not constantly making images then you will get rusty… like anyone involved in skilled pursuits, practice makes perfect.
The trouble with being a professional photographer today is that the creation and dissemination of images is so prevalent and so easy to do that fewer people recognise the skills required to take something precious and unrepeatable like a wedding day and create a body of work that will stand the test of time for the couple involved. Those photographs will still be drawing a response in 12 months, 24 months or even 24 years time from now…
This skill is something that some people will pay for whilst others fail to recognise it’s value (until they compare their ‘gifted amateur’ wedding images with ‘real’ one’s. Even then, some won’t be bothered and that’s fair enough, not everyone is concerned about the quality of the images generated at their wedding (could be a family portrait shoot, an engagement session or anything else people seek out a photographer for.
2013 is going to be a year when many people who delayed their wedding because of the recession will take the plunge (hey.. why not..life is short and we are going to be financially up against it for a long time to come..)
So if that’s you…and you want to make sure that the wedding album you have made is going to be worth the wait then please please hire the right person for the job (preferably me of course!!)
Good luck and Happy 2013 to all past and future clients from Gary at See Me Photography.
John and Majlinda Dunning Marry at Kendal, Windermere
British Summertime..remember the concept? The heavens lent their own slant to the very happy couple’s day as we got caught in a downpour beside Lake Windermere. But..as John himself so rightly said “It made the day even more special for its own unique flavour to events”. We laughed all through the day.
Some very familiar faces attended as this was booked because John and Majlinda and I all met at Alistair and Hayley’s wedding at Englemere House a year ago and I was delighted to be asked to attend as John’s wedding photographer in the Lake District at The Castle Green Hotel in Kendal, Cumbria. He ‘liked my style’ as they say!
I worked hard to bring some magic to the day..it really calls for a lot of imagination and endurance when all the ‘planned’ shots fall by the wayside due to inclement weather..but hey! This is July in England! No surprise.
I worked alongside Brian Robertson from Safe Harbour Productions (www.safeharbourproductions.co.uk) who shot video and lent a very calming presence to the day..I enjoyed his company and picked his brains re video etc as our new Wedding Films company is now up and running tentatively titled Cinema Confetti. See the Video link on the menu bar! Bowness and Kendal in Cumbria looked amazing in every sort of climactic condition and I enjoyed the mix of prople, many from Italy and Albania on Majlinda’s side of the family. They were very entertaining and braved the wilds of Cumbia well. I’m sure they enjoyed the limo ride to the water..fantastic white Hummer with bar and TV inside!
More details to follow..
Aaron and Becky..into the future!
Hi.. thought I’d pop this frame on the blog and update the text next week. It was a shot I knew I wanted as soon as I saw the location. The Main venue was relatively limited in scope and the downpour of rain made things harder still but this road that ran beside the pub where the weddingw as held took my imagination…

Wedding Photography in 2011
The New year.. whoopee! I’m glad its January and we are back on planet Earth my friends.. why? Well, we’ve passed the equinox and the days are getting longer.. spring is a few short months away.. followed by glorious summer.
Light will be brighter, warmer and more prevalent.. and that Fuji x100 will be in my hands all the sooner!
It aslo means a lot of hard work promotoing the business in the grip of a recession and I think money is even tighter this year so it will be really important to quantify the difference between cheapy wedding photographers and talented professional one’s..(me!!).
I have a stack of great images to post from the end of last year.. just working on the album for Amy and Oliver and awaiting the album for Rick and Nadine…all good .
New Years resolution: shoot more this year than last.. and make some winning competition entries.. cycle Lands End to JohnO’Groats in sumnmertimem and generally LIVE!!
